Guide For Storm Damaged Vehicles

Due to recent hurricanes, many vehicles will have unfortunately suffered damage either from debris impact or water intrusion. If your car was damaged you probably have a lot of questions as to who to contact, what to look for and what should be done. Therefore, we thought it best to create a short guide so as to help you with some of your immediate questions. Of course calling us will definitely enable you to get questions specific to your car addressed immediately.

Probably the most common damage is caused by water and flooding. If your car has been affected by water then you should wait till after the water has receded and/or debris have been cleared in your area so you are able to safely gain access to your vehicle. If water has entered the interior of your car then try to dry the interior as much as possible and as quickly as possible. This is critical to try to minimize the chance of further damage as well as possible mold and corrosion issues. Also you will want to treat your interior to remove harmful bacteria, odors and eliminate the chance of mold or mildew buildup as well as treating your vehicles undercarriage to remove contaminants caused by salt from flooding so as to save from costly repairs in the future. Our Ozone Interior and Cryodetail services will be readily available so as to immediately address water damage.

Know your rights with your Insurance company.

You should immediately document any damages with pictures, videos and notes so as to help you with your claim if you are needing to file a claim with your insurance company. Your insurance company should cover any damage to your exterior, interior and mechanical components caused by water intrusion from flooding, engine hydrolock from water, electrical damage and component damage. If your car has any warning lights, water leaks, electrical problems or has completely shut down due to weather your insurance company should also handle this.

However, it is of utmost importance that you know by law you are entitled to have your vehicle repaired at the facility of your choice if making a claim with your insurance company. You do need to know that although your insurance company may try to direct you to one of their repair facilities, you have a choice to select the shop you want to perform the repairs.
